Book gift bag

Love to give books? Tired of wrapping them in the same old gift paper? Not convinced by the traditional book bag and want a more meaningful way of "wrapping" your gift? Try this bag... quick and easy it's sure to make a statement about your good taste!

Yardage estimate (using 44” wide fabric):

1/3 yard of bag fabric
1/3 yard of lining fabric

Cut:
1 piece of bag fabric 11 x 28”
1 handle of bag fabric (download template - link at the bottom of this page)
1 piece of lining fabric 11 x 28”
1 handle of lining fabric (use template)
1 piece of thin fusible batting 11 x 28”
1 handle of thin fusible batting (use template)

Assembly:

1. Fuse batting to wrong side of bag handle fabric.
2. Fuse batting to wrong side of bag fabric.

3. Place handle lining on bag handle, right sides together, and stitch along both long ends, leaving both ends open.

4. Trim, clip curves and turn handle inside out. Topstitch.

5. Center ends of handle along each short end of the bag. Baste in place.

6. Place bag lining right sides together on main bag fabric. Stitch along short ends of bag, catching the ends of the handles in the seam.
7. Turn bag inside out and press sewn seams. Topstitch.

8. Turn bag back toward the lining side. Align and sew side edges together, using an overcast stitch.

7. Turn bag inside out. If desired, add embellishments. In my case, a simple yo-yo did the trick.

8. Make lots and lots of bags… for everyone on your book gift list!
