Cholitas

The blending of two cultures in Latin America - indigenous and Spanish - brought about a third one known as the "mestizo" culture. A "cholo" or "chola" is the term used to describe a man or woman with this ethnic background. And "cholita" is the diminutive... a way of affectionately describing a mestizo girl or woman.

This is a modern rendition of this familiar figure in the Andean region. Use a variety of warm earth-color batiks to create these placemats and tablerunner - this is an opportunity to showcase some of your favorite fabrics!
